Considering a Radon Test?

Maybe you were advised by your real estate agent, whole house or home inspector to have a radon test. That's because they know that radon measurement is an important factor in protecting your family's health. What is Radon Gas and why you should test for Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that is released from soil, rock, and water and is caused by the natural decay of uranium. Recent studies have proven Radon to be directly related to lung cancer.

The Center for Disease Control, the American Lung Association, and the American Medical Association are all in agreement with the US EPA's estimate that Radon gas causes more than 20,000 preventable lung cancer deaths every year in the United States alone.

Only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths each year

This problem has not gone unnoticed, as the U.S. Surgeon General now recommends that all homes in the U.S. be tested for Radon. Unfortunately, you cannot smell, taste, see or feel the effects of Radon in your home. Without a Radon Level Survey there is simply no way to know if your family is being affected. These are the important reasons for radon testing.

Nearly one out of every 15 homes in the United States is estimated to have an elevated radon level (4 pCi/L or more). In Ohio, it's one in every 4 homes.

So What Can You Do? Have the level of Radon in your home measured by a licensed professional. If your measurement is 4pCi/L or more, the EPA recommends you fix (mitigate) the home.
